Development of the legislation for the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme

In June 2008, the Finance and Expenditure Committee reported back to Parliament on the Climate Change (Emissions Trading and Renewable Preference) Bill.

Various supplementary order papers introduced changes to amend the Bill.

The Climate Change (Emissions Trading and Renewable Preference) Bill was divided into the following bills:

These Bills were both passed into law on 25 September 2008 to become the Climate Change Response (Emissions Trading) Act and the Electricity (Renewable Preference) Amendment Act.
