Can I apply for industrial allocation over the phone?
No. You must apply using the prescribed form, which is online only and available here: Application for allocation of NZUs: Eligible industrial activities.
I am worried about putting my details into an online application form. Is it secure?
Yes, your information is secure. The online application form uses a type of security known as HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure). HTTPS is designed to withstand man-in-the-middle and eavesdropping attacks and is considered secure.
What application form do I need to complete during 1 January to 30 April 2013?

Should the data I use in my application be from the calendar year or the financial year?
Data provision for industrial allocation applications is based on the calendar year – 1 January to 31 December. This is different to the data collection process used to assess the eligibility of activities. During this process, the financial year was used.
I need further help completing the form. Is there someone I can contact?
Yes. Email your questions to etsallocations@epa.govt.nz, or phone 0800 CLIMATE (254 628) to arrange for an analyst from the Environmental Protection Authority to contact you.
When I submitted the form there was an error message. What do I do?
Check to see whether you completed all the mandatory fields. Mandatory fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
If there was an error with the submission, either try to submit the application form again, or phone 0800 CLIMATE (254 628) to see if the Environmental Protection Authority received your application successfully.
I provided incorrect information on the application form. How can I fix it?
If you haven’t received your application summary yet, email etsallocations@epa.govt.nz or phone 0800 CLIMATE (254 628) and tell the operator that you provided incorrect information on your application form. The operator will pass on your required corrections.
If you have received your application summary, use a pen to write what you think is the correct information on to the application summary, initial the changes, then sign the summary and return it to the Environmental Protection Authority.
If you have already sent back your application summary, contact the analyst assigned to your application (their telephone number was provided to you with the application summary) or email etsallocations@epa.govt.nz as soon as possible.
When will I receive my application summary to sign?
The Environmental Protection Authority aims to send you an application summary within two days of receiving your application. It will be sent to the person you nominated as contact person by email (if you provided a contact email address) or otherwise by post.
If your contact person has not received your application summary within five days of submitting your application, phone 0800 CLIMATE (254 628) or email etsallocations@epa.govt.nz and ask for a new one.
I received the printed application summary, but I think it is wrong. What should I do?

How can I find out the status of my application?

Why is my allocation halved during the transition period?
During the transition period (2010, 2011, 2012) the number of NZUs that will be allocated is halved, because those with obligations under the ETS are only required to surrender half as many NZUs to cover their emissions.
