APPLICATIONS CLOSED ON 30 JULY 2010.
The dates below apply to most applicants.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In some situations different timeframes will apply.
Mid August 2010: Applicants informed of initial allocation decision (preliminary determination).
3rd September 2010: Deadline for applicants to supply further information if they think their preliminary determination was incorrect.
Mid-late September 2010: Applicants informed of final allocation decision (final determination) and New Zealand Units (NZUs) transferred to Emission Unit Register (EUR) accounts if appropriate.
An amount of 700,000 NZUs were set aside for fishing quota owners. They are compensation for any fall in value of fishing quota resulting from an increase in the cost of fuel under the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
Eligible fishing quota owners were able to apply for an allocation of NZUs, which they can trade.
