To assist the effective operation of the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS), regulatory updates will be made occasionally. This section contains links to information on the development of these regulatory updates.

Regulations Restricting the Use of HFC-23 and N2O CERs in the NZ ETS

Climate Change Minister Nick Smith has announced that Certified Emission Reduction units (CERs) from HFC-23 and N2O industrial gas destruction projects are now banned from New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme (effective 23 December 2011). 

Electricity Allocation Factor Update

The Ministry for the Environment, with the help of the EAF Contact Group, is developing a recommendation for the 2013-2017 Electricity Allocation Factor (EAF).The Minister for Climate Change Issues will then make a decision regarding any changes to the EAF. The EAF is a component of the allocative baseline that is used to calculate the allocation received by eligible industries.
