The NZ Gazette is the official newspaper of the New Zealand Government. Certain decisions and notices are required to be published in the Gazette.
To ensure the proper functioning of the NZ Emissions Trading Scheme, there must be sufficient New Zealand Units (NZUs) in a Crown Holding Account to enable the Crown to meet its obligations for allocation of NZUs to ETS sectors during Commitment Period 1 (2008-2012) of the Kyoto Protocol.
Under section 68 of the Climate Change Response Act 2002 the Minister must consult with the Minister of Finance and have regard for a number of matters before making a direction to the Registrar of the New Zealand Emission Unit Register for NZUs to be issued.
