The transport, energy and industrial sectors entered the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) on 1 July 2010. Below are estimates of the price rises caused as these sectors pass their increased costs on to consumers.
The total price impact on the average household is estimated to be $3.17 per week, or $165 per year.
The ETS is likely to add the following amount to the items below.
3.1 cents per litre.
3.3 cents per litre.
1 cent per kilowatt hour (kWh).
Likely to rise when the waste sector joins the ETS in 2013.
Small increases to the cost of food and other goods may occur as fuel price rises make transporting them more expensive.
